It is about a 15 year old girl named Haven who is facing a whole lot of problems--her height (She is almost 6 feet tall), her father getting married, AND her sister getting married also, to a boring Lewis Warsher, who just makes her sister Ashley seem as boring as him/5(5). It was actually the third one I wrote, after a terrible book I did in college and one that was marginally better the year after. I never intended That Summer to be a YA book while I was writing it: to me, it was just a novel with a teenage narrator.
P Through a person's teenage life they'll go through a tough heartbreak, no matter how hard you try to avoid it, it happens and that's the way of life. "It was just perfect, just right all at once.". P When everything goes the way you plan, everything seems to be in place and in order, your life seems perfect. I liked some of the other characters, especially Sumner (he reminded me irresistably of my all-time favorite Dessen guy, Dexter), so maybe that's why I was so disappointed by the ending. I still love Sarah Dessen as an author though, and I'm glad her later books found their stride so well. ().
